Posted by Roberta Jorgensen Puntillo | Oct 01, 2011 | 0 Comments

A fifth bicycle patrol officer in Milwaukee was struck by a car Saturday, making the officer the fifth to be struck and injured in the past month.

According to reports, the accident happened just after noon at N. Fond du Lac Ave. and W. Capitol Drive. The 26-year-old officer was taken to a local hospital and treated with non-life-threatening injuries.

An elderly driver was ticketed for failing to yield to right of way. Officials said the officer was crossing the intersection and had the right of way.

After the fourth officer was struck and hit just a few weeks ago, the mayor announced all bicycle used in patrols would get new safety lights installed on them.
